Camp activities are based on weekly themes and include arts & crafts\, water play\, science experiments\, literacy\, and so much more! In addition\, participating campers enjoy weekly yoga\, drama\, music\, Zumba\, Spanish lessons\, and movement class facilitated by trained professionals. Each group of campers is supported by a certified teacher and 1-2 camp counselors- offering a 3:1 counselor-to-camper ratio. Campers ages 14-21 will participate in activities that promote independence and vocational readiness as a part of their camp experience each day. These campers will help prepare daily snacks\, assist with collecting & distributing materials and supplies to classrooms (which will be monitored closely to promote camper health safety)\, participate as role models for younger camper group activities\, engage in lessons that promote communication\, problem solving\, self- advocacy and more. Younger campers will practice vital social and communication skills through exploratory hands-on activities as well as physical activities to promote health & growth. Participants attend camp Monday-Friday\, and can chose to participate from 9am-2pm OR 9am-4pm when you register. \nSession 2 of Camp Holiday will take place July 18-29\, M-F\, at Sardis Presbyterian Church. \nCost: $500/session (9am-2pm) OR $700/session (9am-4pm)\nScholarships are available for eligible families. DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!\nFor all Camp/ Retreat registrations & staff/ volunteer applications\, please CLICK HERE.\nThe Adult Weekend Retreat is a 3-day/2-night overnight camp experience for all adults with Down syndrome\, ages 18 and above. The Retreats occur two times per year at YMCA Camp Thunderbird on Lake Wylie in South Carolina. The Retreats also offer a 3:1 participant-to-counselor ratio. The counselors support the vocational trainings and work closely with the adult participants to provide the best experience possible! We also welcome other adults with intellectual disabilities to join us if space allows. \nAdult participants will focus on increasing self-confidence and independence through individual\, small group and large activities and vocational projects throughout the weekend. For example\, participants will learn about and practice Soft Skills for Success\, Job Interviews\, Appropriate Communication\, and other Vocational Readiness skills. \nThe adults will also have the opportunity to participate in camp activities like Canoeing\, Kayaking\, Hiking\, Fishing\, Ziplining\, Team Building\, Rope Courses\, Slip ‘N Slide\, a Dress-Up Dance\, and a Campfire with S’mores. \nCost: $350\nScholarships are available for eligible families. Three of his four children are adopted and have special needs (Down syndrome and Autism\, Alfi’s syndrome\, spina bifida). He also has four siblings with Down syndrome (three were adopted).\nAfter the birth of his brother in 1971\, Dan’s parents adopted three more children with Down syndrome\, becoming a family with nine kids! This gave him a unique perspective on the value of life. PBS and Newsweek Magazine did a feature on them which aired internationally\, and The National Enquirer did a two-page spread about the Kulps! Now\, Dan and his wife have carried on the legacy.\nYou will laugh as Dan describes his parenting foibles. You will be moved to tears as he tells how his wife’s experiences with the infamous “dying rooms” led to adoption. You will be inspired by their son Simon\, who was abandoned in the woods on the day he was born and became whom the Kulps have been told is the first with Down syndrome adopted out of China to the U.S.\nDan has twice appeared on Good Morning America and is author of Confounding the Wise: A Celebration of Life\, Love\, Laughter\, Adoption and the Joy of Children with Special Needs. DESCRIPTION:DO YOU LOVE TO DANCE? \nJoin Miss April for a FIVE-WEEK hip-hop dance class for ages 9 and up!\nClass will meet weekly via Zoom on Wednesdays from 6:30pm-7:30pm EST to rehearse a hip hop routine.\nAll participants will receive a link to the full routine to practice at home between class sessions.\nThis 5-week course will culminate in a virtual hip hop dance recital via Zoom on October 6 at 7pm EST for family and friends to attend! \nYour dancer did NOT have to attend Session 1 or 2 to participate in Session 3. \nDancers of all abilities are welcome! \nWednesday\, September 8\nWednesday\, September 15\nWednesday\, September 22\nWednesday\, September 29\nWednesday\, October 6 – Virtual Dress Rehearsal & Recital \nRegistration Fee is $35.00 per participant and covers all 5 classes\, including the virtual recital. \n  \nEmail mwhite@dsa-gc.org for registration link.
