Down Syndrome Awareness - The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte

Down Syndrome Awareness

The primary aim is to raise awareness and deepen understanding of Down syndrome, promote advocacy, and foster inclusion across the community. The initiative is centered on spotlighting the unique abilities of individuals with Down syndrome, rather than their disabilities. By spreading awareness, we hoped to enhance the opportunities for the Down syndrome community both presently and in the years to come.

World Down Syndrome Day 3/21

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), celebrated on the 21st of March, is a globally recognized awareness day officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.

The significance of the date, 21 March, is to highlight the distinct triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which is the genetic anomaly that leads to Down syndrome.
